A Rainbow Bridge When the children in the Morning

A Rainbow Bridge

When the children in the Morning Nursery Class returned from spring break there was much talk about the amount of rain they experienced during their week off. So…the teachers decided to add a little color to their environment. Jars of water were set out in the science area of the class and the children gathered to observe the change as food coloring was added. Paper towel strips were then inserted to connect the colorful jars. The students were asked to share their thoughts as to what they thought was taking place. “I see myself in the reflection.”

“It’s getting some colors”

“The colors are coming from up!”

“What will happen? Will it turn into a rainbow?’

“They’re glowing!”

“They’re (paper towels) are turning the colors.”

Seizing the Beautiful Sprouts of Spring on Paper

Last week one of the children in the Primary Class found a bunch of Forsythia branches on the ground in our backyard. The teachers took this opportunity and used it as a creative art experience. After bringing this piece of nature indoors, the children worked at the tables to create an observational drawing of the flowers. Each table had a vase of Forsythias, each arranged differently. The objective posed to the children was to “draw what you see.” The children first used pens to draw their picture then used watercolors and colored pencils to complete their piece. Each one is unique and a work of art. Observational drawing has many benefits. The children practice concentration skills, train their eyes and hands to work together and by looking closely are able to see an object’s shape, colors, etc.

A Total Eclipse!

Last Monday, the children arrived at school buzzing with talk of a Solar Eclipse. Using many different props, children from different classes were engaged in demonstrations which would help them to understand the significance of the event.

At precisely 3:20pm on that same day, the children in extended care were joined by staff to partake in a viewing of the eclipse in its totality.
Learning more about how the universe is a very amazingly big place!

Representing What We Learned

After their trip to the local Acme, the 3 Morning Nursery Class had some new ideas of how to embellish their grocery store model. During the trip, they walked up and down all of the aisles and looked at the different types of food on the shelves. The children have now added aisles for our grocery model by using rectangle pieces of cardboard and gluing pictures of the different sections - such as the refrigerators, cereal, and produce. They also created different kinds of food boxes to add to our shelves!

Spring Has Sprung! Signs of Spring are all around

Spring Has Sprung!

Signs of Spring are all around ACP. From the buds on the trees to the tulips blooming in the Welcome Garden, the warmer weather is right around the corner. Before the break, all of the classes worked with Billie to prepare the Season Tree in the Big Room for the upcoming season. The Primary class used sticks and paper cups to create stunning flowers. After constructing the flowers, it was time to paint. They used a variety of colors to bring the flowers to life, create a background and some finishing touches such as the rainbow. Then, other classes helped to create the assortment of insects and smaller flowers. The finished product is aesthetically pleasing and encourages us all to look forward to the warmer days ahead.
