Merriment With Mud!
Mud kitchens stimulate imagination and creativity as well as engaging children of a wide range of ages in valuable play. While participating in the play, children are also developing their fine motor skills, exploring their surroundings, connecting with nature, and enhancing their social skills. Besides, it is just wonderful fun!

Professional Roundtable
Last Saturday it was ACP’s turn to host a NJEEPRE (New Jersey Educators Exploring the Practices of Reggio Emilia) roundtable. Teachers from throughout the state attended and they were able to tour our beautiful campus and talk with our teachers. The discussions focused on how projects evolve, documentation, and outdoor classrooms. The visitors were also given the opportunity to experience our West Yard environment.
The intention was for all who attended to enhance their teaching practices and to encourage them to explore new ways to connect with nature in their own school settings.

Pinata Party Day! Today was the day! Decorations

Pinata Party Day!
Today was the day! Decorations were hung, tables were set, and special snacks were enjoyed. Children played games throughout the classrooms (including outdoors!)and then returned to fill their class pinata. The grand finale… all the pinatas were smashed and everyone filled their bags with treasures. (The pinata shapes this year were a tire swing, pumpkin and two different dinosaurs!) Thanks to all the families for their pinata stuffer donations! A fun time was had by all!

Let the Preparations for the Piñata Party Continue!
The children are working hard preparing for the celebration that will take place tomorrow. The finishing touches are being applied to the piñata shapes. Special treats are being baked and decorations are being created. A very special thank you to the parents who shared their time and recipes helping to prepare the party snacks. Also thanks to all the families for contributing the treasures that will fill the pinatas tomorrow! The children are certainly looking forward to filling their bags with the contents after they smash the piñatas!

Fall Tradition!
The tradition of making a piñata in the fall is almost as old as A Child's Place School itself. It is a time when every classroom begins the truly collaborative process of creating a piñata which will be the main feature at the school celebration that takes place on this Wednesday. Right from the beginning, when prep for the party begins, the children are involved. Each class votes on the shape of their pinata, helps to shape it, covers it with paper mache and then completes it by applying paint and other decorative items.
There are also decorations to create, special snacks to be baked and party games to be planned. We will keep you updated as the process of this wonderful tradition continues!

How Can We Make An Elevator?
Last week the children in the 5 Day Morning Nursery Class started to think of creating a curtain for their shows and they initiated the idea of a pulley as a way to move the curtain. The use of this simple machine spilled out into the block area where several class members were working to make an elevator for the wooden people props. There were many problems that needed to be solved regarding the location of the elevator, how to get the pulley to work, the rate of speed that was appropriate for the elevator and how to keep the people from falling out. Many children offered suggestions and ideas and took turns in working the pulley to move the elevator.
When children’s ideas are listened to, recognized and supported, it is then that collaboration, an exchange of ideas and theories takes place, and a sense of empowerment is felt.

A Doctor in the Classroom
On Friday, Dr. Jenny, a Primary Class mom, came to visit her son’s classroom. Dr. Jenny shared her knowledge on how people can stay healthy. The children shared their responses to the Question of the Day on how they felt someone could stay healthy. She did a demonstration on germs and gave the children the opportunity to ask questions. She explained different tools doctors use such as stethoscopes and an EKG machine. The children loved being able to write their own prescriptions, checking their heartbeats and looking at the medical books just to name a few.

Let The Games Begin!
One Wednesday each month our school community room welcomes a group of parents who have brought with them their family’s favorite board games. The children from all three classes are invited to join in on the fun and participate in the playing of the games. Thanks to all of the parents who took part in our very first Game Day of the school year! We continue to build community in so many different ways!

Swinging Once Again in the West Yard!
One of the Primary Class’ ongoing projects has finally come to fruition. WE HAVE A NEW TIRE SWING! It started with a note to Zach asking if the tire swing could make a return to ACP. Zach responded to the class, asking them if they knew what materials we would need and how it could be hung? The children completed drawings of what they thought the swing should look like and last week a tire was brought into the classroom and the teachers asked the children how the tire should be hung? What materials do we need to hang it? This week we gathered the materials we needed and the husband of one of the teachers came in and worked with the class to hang it. As a class, they worked together to clear the area, making sure it was safe for everyone to use and came up with a set of rules for how we should use the swing. Empowerment at work! Let the fun begin!

Something New at School! In collaboration with @us

Something New at School!
In collaboration with @usblackbeltnj, ACP is offering an afterschool enrichment course in TaeKwonDo. This introductory program is designed for children who are aged 4-7 years old and are NEW to TaeKwonDo. The program is taking place at ACP in the big room and is led by Master Jung of US Black Belt, with all children remaining under ACP supervision throughout the class. The class occurs on four Wednesdays in October at our school and will then culminate at the US Black Belt Dojang in Lincroft.
