Teachers plan activities to encourage children to use their bodies in various ways to help develop self-knowledge and increase skills. Using the small gym, Big Room, as well as the playground, teachers may set up a climbing obstacle course or have small-group play with a large parachute or exercise balls. Children are taught ball throwing and catching skills. They may even play a game of our version of baseball or basketball. Finger plays, climbing, tumbling, target throwing, crawling, balancing on apparatus, through games and play, children use their bodies in space some part of every day at school.
The Primary Class curriculum also includes a weekly off-site physical activity: hiking, ice-skating, movement, and swimming.
